Ewa Wachowicz -Now a leader on the Polish scene, PROMISS has had long experience in producing culinary and ‘how-to’ programmes for television. The company belongs to Ewa Wachowicz, who incidentally not only came first in the Miss Polonia contest of 1992, but was also awarded third place in the Miss World contest of the same year and became Miss World University in 1993. From 1993 to 1995 she held the post of press secretary to the Polish government. In 1997 Ewa Wachowicz made her first series of programmes - ‘How to prepare a nameday party’ - for Polsat (a private Polish television channel). The series was so successful that PROMISS was asked to make another series - this time dealing with desserts (‘Home Café’) - which eventually ran to more than sixty episodes over a two-year period (2003 - 2004). In 1998 the company made another highly successful series called ‘The Culinary Travels of Robert Makłowicz’ - this time for Channel 2 of Polish State Television (TVP2) - of which to date there have been almost 170 episodes, shot in 20 different countries and dozens of interesting ‘good food’ locations in Poland. The immense popularity which the series enjoyed in its first year continues unabated and about 30 new episodes are made each year. The aim of the authors has been to focus on some well-known delicacies of a given country or region and also to give Polish viewers the briefest of introductions to its history and geography, as well as its principal tourist attractions. New episodes of ‘The Culinary Travels of Robert Makłowicz’ are broadcast on Sunday mornings at 11.25, while repeats are broadcast worldwide on the Polish TV POLONIA satellite channel. In the second half of 2004 each new episode drew an average audience of three and a half million viewers. As far as on-air timeis concerned, Ewa Wachowicz - PROMISS is one of the biggest external companies which cooperate with Polish State Television (Telewizja Polska SA): in 2004 its programmes were broadcast 165 times on TVP2, which works out at almost 70 hours of broadcasting time. Presenting as it does cuisines and curiosities from various parts of the globe, ‘The Culinary Travels’ series ties in nicely with the educational mission of the public media. Since 2005 Ewa Wachowicz - PROMISS has also been involved in publishing, starting with ‘The Sweet World of Ewa Wachowicz’ (‘Słodki Świat Ewy Wachowicz’) - a 200-page-long book of traditional recipes for Polish and foreign desserts. The book is selling so well that the author has decided to write a companion volume. The URL of the company’s website is as follows: www.ewawachowicz.pl.
